Taxis are widely used by all, and vary in appearance by company. They can be hailed around the city, but are likely to be concentrated outside hotels, Union Station, and various points of interest such as the National Mall. You may also call ahead for a ride.
All D.C. taxis are now metered. Meters are relatively new to Washington cabs (only since 2008); they replaced the zone pricing that had been the city's traditional fare model.
