Social environment

The Sierra Leone constitution guarantees freedom of religion, and this is largely upheld by the government.

Approximately seventy-five percent of Leoneans are Muslim, and twenty percent Christian, with the remaining five percent following various other faiths. Cultural identities do not generally have close ties with religious affiliation in Sierra Leone, and it is not unusual for Leoneans to blend religious practices with indigenous practices and beliefs. Intermarriages are common, and most Leoneans celebrate all national holidays regardless of origin.
