There are insects of all varieties throughout Sierra Leone, many of which present health risks. Mosquitoes can carry malaria as well as dengue fever, and outbreaks have occurred in the country. Take all precautions to avoid insect bites. Wear long sleeved shirts and long skirts or pants. Use bug spray. Spend as much time as possible in air conditioned or screened environments.
Rodents can transmit lassa fever, a viral illness. Avoid contact with mice and rats, including their droppings, and make all efforts to keep rodents out of your home.
