Choosing a school

Sierra Leone requires six years of primary education, followed by three years of secondary education, for its students. However, while Sierra Leone has a long tradition of Western-style education for its people, a lack of resources and supplies in recent decades have made it challenging to implement compulsory childhood education. Cultural attitudes in some parts of the country sometimes discourage females from attending school.

Most expatriates opt to enroll their children in a school with an international curriculum, and sometimes send older children to a boarding school abroad.
