Social customs

For years, smoking was a popular activity in the Falkland Islands. The traditional smoko snack is named, in part, for a midday smoking break. In recent times, however, health concerns have prevailed. Smoking is banned in most public places in the Falklands, including pubs, restaurants, taxis, buses, and workplaces.

It is always courteous to ask for the permission of others before lighting a cigarette.
