The general standard of healthcare in the Falkland Islands is good, and adheres to United Kingdom standards whenever possible. However, the overall small population also means there are some limits to its facilities, and therefore its capabilities. Visitors are required to provide proof of adequate health insurance upon entry, including coverage of air medical evacuation services.
The King Edward Memorial Hospital, the only hospital in the territory, serves as the primary healthcare facility in the Falklands. The hospital offers emergency as well as long term care services, outpatient services, and dental services. Specialist services are provided by visiting physicians. The hospital also dispenses all prescription and many over-the-counter medications.
