People in Boulder are environmentally conscious and physically fit. Many ride bikes for fun, to do errands, and even to work. There are bike lanes and bike routes around the metro area. That being said, Boulder also has its share of snowfall and winter weather, making it difficult to rely on a bicycle year-round. At any rate, bicycles in Boulder tend to augment the transportation afforded by a private car, not replace it. Of course, couples with families will need a vehicle (or two) for children's activities, school and sports events, and general household errands and shopping.
Suburban parking is not an issue, but within the city spaces are tighter. There are six parking garages and five parking lots in downtown Boulder. In addition, there are metered spaces on the streets. Electric vehicles may be charged in the parking garage at 1500 Pearl Street.
