Colorado was one of the first states to grant women the right to vote; the state has always had a progressive attitude toward women.

The Boulder metro area, in particular, has more female executives (per 1000 female workers) than anywhere else in the U.S. Boulder county boasts 17.7 female executives for every 1000 women workers. According to according to a study by Avalanche Consulting in Austin, Texas, the national average is eight. Women head a variety of businesses around Boulder, in fields ranging from energy and education to non-profits and bioscience.
